Where I am from

I found is poem at Dr. Pepper is Good for the Soul. This is the original Poem Where I am from. I found it inspiring  to write my own and here is an example of the lay out. Try writing your own. It took me longer than I expected it to, but it was fun.

Where I am from

 

I am from  sandboxes, tire  swings, and baskets full of dress up clothes. I am from Cabbage Patch Kids, Barbie dolls, and Glow Worms.

I am from the Lone Star State, bluebonnets and cotton fields. I am from trailer parks and apartment buildings and barely getting by.

I am from carnations, the smell of freshly cut grass, and the clean smell after it rains.

I am from American beer, watching fireworks on the Fourth of July, and the family gathering around the Christmas tree.

I am from movies on the couch, board games, and shopping trips with Mom. I am from happy memories and  close family ties.

I am from Kathy, Jackie, Jack, and Maryann. I am from people who never quit, they found God and their lives where never the same. I am from homemade Christmas candy, a love to read, and respect of others.

I am from a Southern Baptist Church in a little town that no one has heard of.

I am from tales of bar fights, plumbers, hard lives, and snobby people who cared too much about what people will think and too little of their daughter’s well being.

I am from chicken and dumplings, salmon patties, and fried taters.

I am from people who taught me God is first, then your family is second and without those two things you will have nothing worth while.

I am from loving like you have never been hurt, dance like no one is watching, forgiveness is never optional, and tomorrow is never guaranteed.
