A good book with a good plot. Miranda is a widow and a mother of 6 young children. She will do anything to protect her children. A cult like church is blackmailing her into submission. She sees an opening to break free, but she has to be willing to risk everything for freedom, safety, and love. A good read. Give it a try.

Chicken Spaghetti

I really got good reviews from my hubby and my Mom on this recipe. It came from Plain Wisdom the first book I reviewed. I was really surprised at how good this turned out. The hubby had seconds and had it for lunch the next day, and that is really unusual for him. It does make a lot. One other note I used cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom cause this chick does not do shrooms, and I added extra cheese. I meant to take a picture of the finished product but I was not fast enough.

  • 1 Chicken, cooked and chopped (about 2-3 cups)( I used boiled chicken breast and cubed them)
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • pat of butter
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can of condensed tomato soup
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 pound of Velveeta cheese
Place cooked chicken and spaghetti in a container, and set aside. In LARGE pot saute onions and celery in a pat of butter(I just guessed at a pat of butter but I didn't use much at all). Add broth, milk, and soups. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add chicken and spaghetti. Add salt and pepper as needed. Pour the mixture into a 9x13 greased or sprayed casserole dish. Cover with cheese( I cubbed the Velveeta and added some extra shredded as well) Bake at 350 degrees untill it is heated thoroughly and the cheese has browned.

When the Heart Cries by Cindy Woodsmall

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. You can download the first chapter of When the Heart Cries here.

When the Heart Cries is the first book in the Sisters of the Quilt trilogy. I have enjoyed learning more and more about the Amish way of life. You can tell that Cindy has done a lot of research in writing this book. I can not wait to finish this series.

Hannah Lapp is in love with a young man her family will not approve of because Paul is a Mennonite. They get engaged the night before Paul returns to college. Hannah suffers a series of tragedies and rumors and she is at risk for losing everything and everyone she has ever loved. She follows her heart and finds that no matter what happens God has a plan nevertheless.

Plain Wisdom by Cindy Woodsmall & Miriam Flaud

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. Click here to download the first chapter.

This story follows two women, Mariam and Cindy, in their journey of friendship. They come from two different worlds. Cindy is a fiction author who travels the country, using the latest technology to keep up with life. Miriam is an Amish women living in her traditions of simplicity. They do however have some major common bonds that help build the friendship that neither one expects. They are both wives, between the two of them they have been married for sixty years. They are both mothers. They have nine children between them. They also serve and worship the same God.

I did not know this was a non fiction book, but that is OK because I loved Plain Wisdom anyway. It gives a polite look into an Amish families life, home, and community. It also has many real world truths about us as sinners and our God who loves us so much. Each new chapter starts with a scripture which is in line with the chapters theme. I can not wait to try out some of the recipes they share in this book. They sound so good. This book proves all you need is an open heart and a plate full of salad dressing to start a life long friendship. I will be reading this book again.
